Who!? Where are you from? What School? Why Dentistry?

Howdy, Y’all! I was corn-fed and corn-raised in the state of Indianapolis, IN.

Why do I say it like that? Because that’s all there is here…. Just a lot of corn 🌽!

I went to Purdue University for undergrad… GO BOILERS🚂 ! I also received a masters from the University of Indianapolis, and am a D3 at Indiana University School of Dentistry.

(Even though it isn't an IU school, I will forever be a Boilermaker at heart!)

I wanted to go into dentistry due to a very specific story. One day at my local dentist’s office, a patient came in with what I now know as severe periodontitis. This patient’s gums were extremely inflamed, bleeding, and puss filled. Watching hygiene and the dentist work with that patient to restore their health; although gruesome, allowed me to find fascination in dentistry. On the same day, in the operatory next door, I was also able to witness a smile transformation in a fixed partial denture delivery. To be able to see this patients smile transformed and their instant confidence be recovered made me cry. These stark differences in ways of helping people and being able to give back to my community is what ultimately led me to want to be a part of the dental profession!

Your Favorite thing about D7 ASDA

"D7 is so close and personable and I really feel like we are a family.

I think this is so unique to D7 and we have such an undying, meaningful, and real passion towards the relationships that we build with one another.

If you had to make a slogan for District 7...

🗣️ "Peace up, 7s down"

(like Peace Up, A-Town down)

This year's goal for D7

"I hope to see District 7 becoming the closest we've ever been! 🔥 D7 IS ASDA FEVER 🔥! We put the fire behind anything and everything we do, so I am excited to see the ongoing friendships that we nurture turn into the advancement of our chapter and leadership well beyond our district!"

What do you do for fun!?

"I LOVE to cook! I enjoy making new things all the time and am the designated mac & cheese maker for family functions.

If you think crumbles go on mac & cheese... it's straight to jail for you! ❌

I also enjoy long boarding, hanging out with friends, or just anything activity that sounds like a good time spent with friends.

3 Things on Your Bucket List...

1. Graduating D2

2. Moving to California

3. ...and getting a tattoo sleeve

What ASDA initiative are you most excited about?

I am most excited about ASDA finding ways to reduce student debt & licensure portability. Both of these issues are huge wins for the student body as we explore ways to combat the egregious debt that continues to add while in school. Licensure portability is such an amazing concept, because I think this will contribute to the standardization of dentistry while also allowing for freedom  flexibility for dentists in their careers!

What is one piece of advice you have for incoming D1s?

If there's one thing I could tell you, it would be to join ASDA and take full advantage of the benefits that ASDA comes along with! Yes, there are discounts on Figs scrubs and disability insurance, but there are other invaluable benefits like networking with leaders, legislators, and representatives of practices that offer you travel, advocacy, and digital dentistry experiences that you may not be able to receive from just going to class day-in-day-out! This for me helped reduce school burnout while allowing me to connect with my peers from other schools!
