It’s no secret that ASDA is a multifaceted organization. My first exposure to ASDA has been at the chapter level. Marquette ASDA does an amazing job at providing their students a way to escape the hectic and stressful atmosphere of dental school. With tons of events, speakers, and outdoor activities, all students are given an opportunity to have fun and bond with their friends. If you want to strengthen your social skills with continuing education and speaking with other professionals, find your first pair of loupes that make this whole “being a dentist” thing really sink in, or playing a round of bags/cornhole on a Wednesday afternoon, ASDA does it all and there’s truly a place for everyone.
Personally, my favorite event/activity is always Book Club. The Marquette ASDA Book Club started in 2014, and has become a unique staple for our school’s chapter. The Book Club committee does an immaculate job at providing a welcoming environment. Book Club is for everyone - seasoned readers, people that never read, or people who just want to have a night to discuss reading and how it impacts their mental health. Each semester, the club selects one book to read as a group. People read at their own pace, and throughout the semester there are two meetings to get together and discuss the book. The meetings always have snacks, fun beverages, and are filled with great people and conversation. I couldn’t think of a more relaxing and encouraging atmosphere, and that is what ASDA is all about. ASDA wants to make life a little easier and a lot happier, and they do an amazing job with providing an event or activity for everyone.
